Action Sequence version 6

This is the 6th version of the moom action sequence, I have edited the moom at the end and changed the arm swing as both the arms swing one way at the start, the ending now looks better and like the moom is actually walking at the end.

Action Sequence Version 5

Watching back through previous versions I though it would be better if I made the moom characters head tilt down a bit more so hes looking directly at the object hes lifting, I had to go through the keyframes for the head to make sure i got the right tilt.

Action Sequence Version 4

This is the 4th version of the action sequence, here I have animated the box so that it moves slightly up and down as the moom tries to lift it, the moom then puts the box down because its too heavy to lift. Although there isnt much movement of the object in the reference footage I though it would be good to add a tiny amount of movement as the character tries to lift the object.

Action Sequence Version 3

This is the 3rd version of the action sequence, I have included a box in this one, however I haven't animated it, I just wanted to see how the animation would look with a cube in it, I needed to also see what the right kind of shape would be, therefore this version consists of the animation along with the cube, I also edited a few of the keyframes for the hands so that they didn't go through the cube as much.

Action Sequence Version 2

This is the 2nd version of the action sequence, I went into a bit more detail this time it looks a bit better than the first version so some progress there, however I need to see what it looks like once a box is added.

Action Sequence version 1 Blocking

Using my animation reference footage I was able to block out how the animation would look, it isnt amazing but its a start looking back at it I think the one mistake i made was that i didnt pose the legs in the right place before i started animating, as they bend out of place in certain bits, other than that I think with a little more work this can look better. I also need to include a box

Walk Cycle Version 7

This is the 7th version of the walk cycle and after watching the clip of the walk along with a slight head bounce and am very pleased with the progress made whilst animating this moom character, first of all learning how to move the character at all proved to be a challenge but I have learnt how to animate the character to walk, I think the head bob is a good inclusion as the head was still before and was noticeable whilst looking at the walk.

Walk Cycle Version 6

This is the 7th version of the moom walk cycle, I have fixed the arms and legs by making each of the corresponding frames the same, the walk cycle consists of 25 frames, essentially 1 and 25 are the same frame so they have to be exactly the same in terms of where different limbs are placed, The same applys to frame 13 however the arms and legs are switched over with the place of the left leg on frame 1 being the exact same for the right leg on frame 13 and so on, this also applys to frames 4 and 16, 7 and 19, 10 and 22. Using this knowledge I made sure that the opposites were set at the same values so that the arm was swinging properly this was the same case with the legs, and overall the walk looked much better. I also edited the position of the shoulders and the hips depending on how far they were rotated, The heel roll also had an influence on where the leg was placed on certain frames, After tinkering with all of the precise values for the limbs of the moom, this is the outcome of the walk cycle, however I think that the only thing that sticks out is that the head doesn't move and that perhaps a slight head bob might add to the look of the walk cycle.

Walk Cycle Version 5

This is the 5th version of the moom character walk cycle, I have made the changes that I said I would in the 4th version however I have noticed that when one arm stops swinging the other carrys on so I have a little more work to do in terms of the swing of the arm, Hopefully once the arms is fixed it will look better.

Walk Cycle Version 4

This is the 4th version of the walk cycle, In this one the character walks and the arms are animated however one arm seems to swing a bit more than the other and during the passing position the foot is lifted up maybe a little too much, the planted foot in the passing position is also not straight so the leg tilts diagonally I should try to fix this before moving on to think about rendering.

Walk Cycle Version 3

This is the 3rd version of the walk cycle and in this version the arms have been animated as well as the legs, this shows a bit of progress from the 2nd version and it looks more like a walk cycle animation, I now need to work on the arms and legs using the rotoscope guide of the walk cycle and arm movements to help me.

Walk Cycle Version 2

This is the second version of the moom character walk, A bit more development from the 1st version as the 1st version had the character moving backwards as he took a step whereas here I have edited the animation and made sure that the walk is steady and that there is a slight bounce and the moom characters body stays roughly in the same place and doesnt move somewhere else once a step is taken.

Walk Cycle Version 1

These 2 clips are from the 1st version of the moom character walk cycle, The walk cycle consists of 25 frames and includes the the contact point, the up and down movement and the passing position. This version so far is just the legs as the arms still need to be animated.

Shuttlecock Version 11

For this version I have sped everything up and tried to add some subtle bounces towards the end of the animation as well as a small rotation as the shuttlecock finally comes to a stop, I think this is a big improvement from previous versions, therefore I will render this version for the final clip.

Shuttlecock Version 10

In this version of the shuttlecock animation the height is lower after the first bounce however it seems to 'drag' in the air as it falls and therefore affects the whole look of the animation. I will have to edit with the dope sheet in order to fix this.

Shuttlecock Version 9

This is the 9th version of the shuttlecock animation, I think that the shuttlecock rising up after the first bounce is too slow and it also jumps a bit too high, so therefore I will have to edit the height and the speed of the shuttlecock, I will have to use the dope sheet to edit these problems.

Shuttlecock Version 8

This is the 8th version of the shuttlecock and although I have altered the timings in the dopesheet the twist in the air still looks a bit weird so ill have to tweak that bit to get it right.

Shuttlecock Version 7

This is the 7th version of the shuttlecock and it looks okay apart from the rotation whilst in mid air, it is a bit slow and therefore ruins the whole look of the animation, If I play around with the dope sheet editor then hopefully I can fix the timings to make it look better.

Shuttlecock Version 6

This is the 6th version of the shuttlecock, I think that the 2 bounces is a bit too much and that I should instead just use one bounce and concentrate on that to get the right ending. Other than that I am pleased with everything else.

Shuttlecock Version 5

This is the 5th Version of the shuttlecock, making the shuttlecock enter the shot quicker worked well however it left me with a bit more to do once the shuttlecock hits the floor, I added a few bounces however they look unrealistic and a bit silly, therefore I think I should just stick a simple solution of either 1 or 2 bounces and the shuttlecock simply landing after.

Shuttlecock Version 4

This is the 4th version of the shuttlecock animation, I have tried to add a couple more bounces instead of the rotation and it seems to work well, however i need to tweak the bounces to make them look a bit more realistic and fluid, there is also an issue where the 2nd bounce seems to happen really quickly compared to the others and it also jumps a bit too much, I also thing that maybe the speed at which the shuttlecock enters the shot could be a bit quicker. A few more tweaks are needed overall.

Shuttlecock Version 3

This is the 3rd version of the shuttlecock animation, I have included the shuttlecock falling through the air and the shuttlecock landing and bouncing and then finally the rotation of the shuttlecock on the floor, it all looked good apart from the ending with the shuttlecock only rotating one was, I wanted the actual shuttlecock itself to rotate as it rotated round along the floor, however that was not the case so I may have to change the landing slightly and maybe add a few more bounces instead.

Shuttlecock Version 2

This is the 2nd version of the shuttlecock, I have drawn thumbnail sketches for both the shuttlecock falling through the air and landing, I now need to sketch out the movement along the floor, as the shuttlecock 'rolls' across the floor.

Shuttlecock Version 1

This is the first version of the shuttlecock animation, I wanted to block out the animation at first and get the length at roughly 2 seconds, I wanted the shuttlecock to land in other half of the court 1 second in and then have a bounce and a slight movement on the floor once it has landed, In this capture the shuttlecock lands, bounces and then jumps to its next position. This is the general idea for the animation as I want it to rotate as it rolls across the floor, I may even add in another bounce.

Bowling Ball Version 8

These are the 2 camera angles for the 8th version of the bowling ball, this animation includes the movement of the ball as it bounces, along with rotation. The timings have been altered slightly as ive gone along, this shows the progress I have made from the start of animating the bowling ball.

Bowling Ball Version 7

This is the 7th version of the bowling ball, this includes movement as the ball bounces and a slight rotation as it is about to drop, I also included a roll at the end however this needs to be tweaked slightly along with the height of the bounce of the ball and the rotation.

Bowling Ball Version 6

This is the 6th version of the bowling ball and In this version the ball moves across as it bounces and it also rotates down as the ball is about to drop, there is still a bit of work to be done in order to complete the ball animation however it is looking much better than it did before.

Bowling Ball Version 5

This is the 5th version of the ball bounce, In this ball bounce the ball bounced with the same timings as before however this time I moved the ball as it bounced to make it move along, this looks a bit more convincing as an animation, however there are still more tweaks needed.

Bowling Ball Version 4

This is the forth version of the bowling ball animation the timings of the bounces are done and look reasonably okay, All I have done is the timings and general animation. I still need to add rotation and more movement to the ball as it bounces.

Bowling Ball Version 3

This is the 3rd version of the bowling ball animation, I worked out some different timings for this using a clip found on the internet for animation reference. The ball seems to jump in mid air as it bounces towards the end, this is because i tried editing the height of the bounce after I had added a rotation, I still need to work on the rotation of the ball as it drops on each bounce, The animation runs just over 2 seconds though so it is within the required length of time.

Bowling Ball Version 2

This is the second version of the bowling ball, done on different timings, I have also started to try and incorporate a slight rotation in the ball as it bounces, However it doesn't look good, I need to work on that more. I also need to make the bounce a bit longer and alter the timings because it isn't long enough for the minimum time for a clip, I may have to use the timings for the first version but with a few alterations.

Bowling Ball Version 1

This is the first version of the bowling ball animation, I wanted to see how the thumbnail sketches would work and if the timings were okay, looking at this, I think there may need to be another bounce and the speed needs to be changed, so some issues with the timing there. I will have to carry on and tweak until I have a stronger version.

Tennis Ball Bounce Version 7

This is the 7th version of the tennis ball bounce, I recieved a bit of feedback from my peers during a class as I was having trouble animating the bounce of the ball and I felt that the bounce as a bit 'jumpy' at the start and the ball jolted up too quickly, I was however pleased with the end, My peers mentioned editing the curve on the f curve editor, I made the curve less 'curved' and made it sharp meaning the ball would bounce up quickly but not like a jolt, Therefore the bounce of the ball seemed to look better than before.

Tennis Ball Bounce Version 6

This is another version of the tennis ball bounce, I tweaked the height of the bounces on this to make it look  more realistic. However there are still some noticable flaws. Improvement is however visible.

Tennis Ball bounce version 5

These are the 2 camera angles of the 5th version of the tennis ball bounce, I have edited the movement of the ball slightly along with the bounce height and the distance the ball travels as it bounces, I did this using the f curve editor, I think it worked out well and im am pleased with the results of this.

Tennis Ball bounce version 4

This is the 4th version of the ball bounce, using my research I made the ball bounce and move along as if someone had thrown it slightly, I included a roll as it was in the air and the roll then took it to start falling towards the ground, I researched the length it would bounce and travel and included this in the animation. I think this is a massive improvement from the previous versions and I can use this to hopefully improve for a final edition as there are noticeable parts that need tweaking, Such as the length of the bounce I think that after the first bounce the ball doesnt travel far enough on the other bounces.

Tennis Ball bounce version 3

This is the 3rd attempt at the tennis ball bounce, I wanted to try and get the height of each bounce first before anything else, So this was just to see what it would look like as the ball reached a certain height each time it bounced off the ground.

Moom Walk cycle

This is the Moom character walk cycle the character walks on the spot, Only the bottom half of his body has been animated, I found this challenging as I used the dope sheet and the reference image of the Richard Williams Walk cycle to get the key poses. The computer did the in-betweens for me, however I have noticed as I have done the up and down poses the character seems to move back slightly, A little tweaking needed there, I have also noticed a slight pop in the movement of the hip which can be easily tweaked by moving the hip on a keyframe. Overall a good first attempt at the Moom walk cycle.

Moom Character Pose

Taking a break from the ball bounces I have been working with the rig of the Moom character, This is the Moom character that I have posed in the form of Spiderman, I used the Synoptic viewer in order to move the fingers to the same pose as spidermans. I tried to move the legs in the same way as well as the slight bend in the torso.

Tennis Ball Bounce Test Version 2

After implementing the changes to the speed of the drop after each bounce the ball drop looks slightly better although some more tweaking is needed, I have noticed that the bounces are quite quick and that there is a distinct difference in the height between the 2nd and 3rd bounces.  I want to try and focus on the squash and stretch of the ball bounce in order to get a better look at how the ball will bounce, I will also go on to concentrate on the ball bouncing to a stop with the quick bounces at the end of the bounces which eventually leads to a stop.

Tennis Ball Bounce Test Version 1

This is the 1st test done for the Tennis Ball Bounce, I worked out some rough timings for keyframes with a thumbnail sketch in my sketchbook, I animated the ball bouncing with these timings to get an idea on how the ball would bounce and I have seen that it doesn't look right. The ball seems to change speed when it bounces and instead of speeding up when it gets closer to the ground it actually slows down so I think I should try to see how it looks if the ball speeds up as it gets closer to the ground.

Bounce Bounce Exercise 3

This is the 3rd attempt, more editing with the F Curve editor and dope sheet. I had to make sure the ball didn't start rising too early, and make sure that the ball at least began to stretch before it left the ground.

Ball Bounce Excercise 2

This is a slightly edited version of the first ball bounce, I edited the f curve on this one which made it bounce differently, however it needs a lot more done to it.

Ball Bounce with wall

We were given a task to time the bounce of a ball next to the wall, the ball had to bounce as if it was trying to see something on the other side of the wall and then back down. We had to include the squash and stretch technique. Once I had made the wall and the floor and the sphere I animated it using the keyframes and let the computer do the inbetweens. Once the animation was done I used the F curve editor and the dope sheet to edit the movement of the ball.

Below is the finished capture of the animated ball bounce.

Croquet Slide

The next excercise consisted of us animating the ball rolling down a slide and going through the hoops and into a box, The ball seems to stop slightly as the reaches the bottom of the slide and then suddenly a burst of speed takes it across and through some of the hoops, a little more work is needed on this.

I tried to make the ball bounce off of the corners of some of the hoops and the curve round to go through another hoop this is the view of the ball going through the hoops.

Croquet Excercise

We then applied the same idea to something else with a ball, however we now had to time the movement of the ball with the swing of a hammer, this meant we had to animate the hammer and the ball. I tried to make the hoops move as the ball went through them, they don't move amazingly but its good practice.

Ball Roll Animation

This is one of the first excercises during the lessons on Autodesk Softimage, We learnt how to keyframe the rotation and the movement of the objects and therefore created a short animation for a ball rolling.

Autodesk SoftImage practice- Mr Potato Head Comic strip

This is the first time I have used Autodesk SoftImage, I learnt the basics of moving, rotating and resizing shapes. We were set a task to design a comic strip to show we could move the different shapes, We had to design Mr and Mrs Potato head in order for us to show we could move the shapes. As the image shows I have successfully made a comic strip by moving the shapes to pose the characters in different shots.
